Sälen’s canoe center has more than 15 years of paddling experience, our equipment is of course the highest standard.
Sälens canoe center is an approved canoe rental by the Swedish Canoe Association.

Day Tours
Fulunäs – Sälen, 24 km
The tour starts in Hälla Nature Reserve and the first kilometers consists of flowing water which then turns into calmer water. If you want to experience nice nature, you should definitely not miss to paddle this stretch.
Who can ride this tour? – Everyone can paddle this tour. No experience required. For the whole family.
How long will it take? -The trip takes about 5-7 hours incl. shorter snack break.

Högstrand – Sälen, 10 km
A half-day trip for those who want a shorter trip along the Västerdalsälven.

Frequently asked questions
2 adults (13 years +) per canoe, if there is an uneven number (3, 5, 7 people) it is possible to sit 3 in a canoe.
How can you sit if you have children in the canoe?
Example:
- 2 Adults + 1 child 8-12 years
- 2 adults + 2 children 0-7 years
- 2 adults + 1 child 0-7 years + 1 child 8 – 12 years
- 1 adult + 2 children 8-12 years
There are 2 who paddle per canoe. The day trips from Högstrand and Fulunäs are downstream so it is simple and easy kayaking. Our tip is to take an extra canoe and let the children paddle to get a better experience and feel involved in the paddling.
Wear mobile and comfortable clothes for a comfortable paddling trip. If the wind is windy and / or rainy, bring a jacket and change. Something to eat and swimwear if you want to stop along your paddling trip.
The weather in the mountains can vary a lot but canoeing is an excellent activity in case of rain and debris. Wearing a rain jacket and warm clothes and it’s no problem. Rebooking guarantee can be purchased for SEK 20 per canoe, gives the right to rebook up to 4 hours before the rental.

Exceptions are made for thunder or other circumstances that can make the paddle trip dangerous.
Cancellation due to illness, then a medical certificate is needed to get money back.
What does a rebooking guarantee mean? – With a rebooking guarantee (SEK 20 / person), you can rebook and change the date and time for your tour up to 4 hours before the tour starts.
Overnight Tours
Ljördalen – Sälen, 65 km
One of Sweden’s most beautiful tours. The tour starts in Norwegian Ljördalen and runs along the lovely Görälven with the magnificent Fulufjället alongside. The river meanders beautifully with mountains on both sides, like in June may still be snow-covered. The paddling starts with a couple of easy miles paddling to the border. Under the bridge it turns into a light rapid and from here
follows rapids at regular intervals all the way to the confluence with The Fulu river. A couple of parts of a higher degree of difficulty occur, towing alternative lifting may be necessary depending on water level. Last rapid before the confluence goes in a turn. Keep inside curve. After the confluence it is easy rapids for a few kilometers and then turns into silt for the last 15 kilometers. The entire route requires careful planning with waterproof packing sacks/barrels and lashed cargo in the canoe. With these preparations go all passages to go through with reservation for certain water levels.
Who can ride this tour? – The tour requires careful packing, no major previous experience is needed as on the faster flowing sections you can tow or carry the canoes over land.
How long will it take? – 3 days
When can you paddle? – It is normally possible to do the trip throughout the season subject to too low or extremely high water flow.

Sälen – Malung, 70 km
A nice calm route with only a few sections of less fast-flowing water along which the canoes can be towed from the land. The major obstacle along the route is Tandå power station past which the canoes have to be transported by trailer for approximately 700 m over land.
Who can ride this tour? –No previous experience is needed on this tour.
How long will it take? – 4 days
When can you paddle? -The trip usually goes to paddle the whole season with resarvation extremely high water flows.

Beavertours
Evening tour (with a chance to see beavers)
Paddle one of our most popular tours (Högstrand – Sälen, 10 km) at dusk. Take in the silence, the tranquility and the beautiful nature. If you are lucky, there is a chance to see a beaver. But above all, experience the silence and tranquility of the river in the evening. Gathering at the canoe center then transport up to Högstrand where you get instructions on how to paddle and to increase the chance of seeing beavers. You then paddle yourself back at your own pace to the canoe center.

Beaver safari with Wild Mountain
During the hours of dusk, the beavers begin to become active and seek out their nests in search of food, or material for their huts. The beavers then swim along the river sides and shorelines. Sometimes it goes ashore to find a suitable tree to fell. A great opportunity to spy on the beaver and maybe take a picture of it. We paddle a canoe during the trip and use the river’s currents to calmly take us to the beaver’s favorite haunt and view nature and its inhabitants. Before and during the trip, our guide tells more about the beaver and shares exciting stories from encounters with beavers. During the tour we will cook over an open fire by the river.
